DIY Patchwork Letter

Welcome to our new blog! Often times we have so many projects we want to do but it is so hard to get the time to do them. We are hoping this blog gives us the opportunity to finally bring all of our crafty, decor and makeover ideas to life. To start off we created a tutorial on how to mod podge a wooden letter.

Materials Needed:
Wood Letter
White Paint
Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge (you can get it at craft stores)
Paint Brush (or foam brush)

First, paint all the edges of your letter.

After the paint has fully dried the fun can really begin! With our letter we were going for more of a vintaged patchwork look. Start by ripping your paper into various sizes being sure to remove all straight edges.

With your brush and mod podge, paint the wood in small sections so it doesn't dry out before you have applied all the paper pieces.

Continue adding your scraps of paper until the surface is completely covered. Don't worry about pieces hanging over the edge, we will get those later!
After all the paper is placed on the letter you'll want to apply a layer of Mod Podge over the whole letter.

After the first coat is dry, apply another layer. You'll want to add about 5-7 coats of Mod Podge to create a smooth surface on the top of the letter.

Here's what our letter looks like after applying everything.
When all the mod podge is dry (we let it dry overnight) you can either an x-acto knife and trim the edges or what we did. Just rip the edges to give the same effect as the rest of the letter.

All the paper now looks like one piece of paper and feels very smooth. I love it!!!
Lastly we will sand the edges with a fine grit sandpaper and attach a hanging device. Voila! We now have a sweet little letter G that perfectly matches the soon to be occupied nursery of a special little niece! More pictures to follow...
